Overview

I’d like to share my recommendations for MEGA BONK’s Tom. While it may vary slightly depending on your playstyle and preferred weapons, this guide prioritizes clearing Tier 3.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Uniqueness
  • Scaling
  • Versatility
  • Things that cannot be turned OFF with Togler

First and foremost is uniqueness. Items or ability upgrades that can substitute for it lower its priority. Next is scaling. We value late bloomers like tomes that grow exponentially stronger over time. Then comes versatility. We value those that remain powerful regardless of weapon choice.

Togler: Can toggle items ON or OFF

Finally, there are items that cannot be turned off with Togler. Togler can be purchased at the shop.
Togler allows you to turn off the appearance of items. Turning them off reduces the number of items obtainable through leveling up, making it easier to carefully select your inventory.

Since some items cannot be turned off, it’s generally best to choose from among these.

S Rating: Uniqueness and Strength

XP Tome: Increases XP gained from all sources

You’ll gain more XP (experience points). Acquiring this tome increases the number of times you can strengthen your character through leveling up. Fundamentally, increasing the number of level-ups is more effective for becoming stronger in the long run than acquiring other tomes.

However, this tome is weak early on, making it unsuitable for casual play.

Lucky Tome: High-quality options become more likely to appear during level-ups and at shrines.

This is the Luck Tome. Acquiring the Luck Tome improves the quality of level-ups, Moai statues, and shrine upgrades.

Like the XP Tome, it’s weak early on. However, it ultimately becomes an essential tome.

Cursed Tome: Difficulty Increases

This is an essential dungeon for aiming for top rankings. As difficulty increases, enemy numbers rise, boosting your score. With more enemies, you’ll likely gain more experience points too.

On the other hand, it’s unnecessary for Tier 3 challenges or casual players. As the name implies, the increased difficulty makes for an extremely grueling playthrough.

Notes

  • Casual Play: 0–1 copies
  • Tier 3 Clear Target: 0–2 copies
  • Ranking Target: All 3 copies required

These tomes are required in the quantities listed above. My personal recommendation is: for casual play, one from Luck or XP; for aiming to clear Tier 3, two from Luck and XP; and for aiming for the rankings, three are essential.

※The following is a side note.
It’s true that some MEGABONK fans question why these three tomes are mandatory for ranking. Since fixed builds accelerate the luck-based nature of the game, this might be adjusted in the future.

A Rating: Strong

Damage Tome: Increases attack power

A simple yet powerful build.

It excels in versatile builds due to its damage scaling. It also scales well over time.

Precision Tome: Increases Critical Rate

This is a tome that increases critical hit rate. When critical hit rate exceeds 100%, it triggers overcrit, boosting damage and scaling similarly to damage tomes.

Cool Down Tome: Attack frequency increases

Attack frequency and cooldown decrease. As attack count increases, it scales similarly to the above two.

This tome excels when using weapons with slow reload times, such as snipers. Unlike the other two, its increased attack count makes it powerful in group battles like enemy rushes.

Size Tome: Expands attack range

Simply put, it increases your attack range.

As the name suggests, it boosts damage in group battles. Conversely, while it doesn’t increase damage in boss fights, it remains effective for attacking with melee weapons from a safe distance.

If you only use gunman-type weapons like revolvers, Size Storm isn’t necessary. However, it pairs well with weapons that transform when their size increases, making for a powerful combination.

Notes

For these four tomes, I think the priority should be Damage and Precision if you want to boost boss fight capabilities, and Cooldown and Size if you want to enhance group battle capabilities.

B Rating: Excels in specific builds and situations

Armor Tome: Increases defense

This is necessary when building a tanky build. It reduces damage taken from enemy attacks.

Projectile Speed Tome: Increases bullet velocity

This build excels with weapons that have low bullet velocity. It might only be usable when you’ve selected 3-4 types of weapons that are affected by bullet velocity, but I haven’t seen it perform well in many situations.

Spike Tome: Reflects damage when enemies attack

This is used when building a tanky build. Since you have to take enemy attacks, it’s rarely used in standard builds.

Blood tome: Increases the chance to recover HP when attacking enemies

Used when building tanky or lifesteal builds. It sees limited use.

Shield Tome: Increase Shields

Grants a shield that recovers over time without taking damage. The shield amount increases over time. This tome is recommended for those finding Tier 3 boss battles difficult.

Unlike blood sucking, the shield fully recovers over time, reducing the risk of being defeated. It excels in certain situations during the final boss battle.

Silver Tome: Increases the amount of silver you obtain

It might be useful if you want to increase your silver. Since it’s a skill that doesn’t affect combat at all, you probably won’t use it.

Quantity Tome: Increases attack frequency and ammunition count

It increases the number of attacks and bullets. It can be utilized when building a projectile-based build. This is an item that can be turned off with a togler, so if you take this, you should have no problem with a cooldown for a projectile-based build or a size tome for a ranged attack build.

It stabilizes the early stages of the game, so there are times when you can use it in challenges.

Golden Tome: Increases the amount of gold obtained

Gold does increase, but since there’s no use for it in boss battles or overtime, unlike XP or Luck, you generally don’t collect it.

Characters whose damage increases based on their gold holdings: They might excel in Robinette.

C Rating: Generally not accepted

Attrac Tome: Increases the range for picking up XP

The range for picking up EXP increases. However, since magnets or magnet statues are sufficient, I don’t feel it’s worth using up a precious slot in my tome for this.

Evasion Tome: Increases evasion rate

It could potentially shine in evasion builds. However, if you want durability, HP or armor might be more reliable.

Characters whose abilities activate with evasion: It might excel with the Ninja.

Regeneration Tome: Increases the amount recovered per minute

You might use it in tanky builds. Compared to HP, armor, or shields, its priority is probably lower. Be careful, as there are items that reduce regeneration by 50%.

HP Tome: Increases HP

It’s sometimes used in tank builds. While there are items that increase damage based on maximum HP, combining them is a rare case.

Agility Tome: Increases movement speed

For casual play, I think it’s fine to use. It should reduce stress when using characters with slow movement speed.

Conversely, be careful not to level it up too much, as the movement speed becomes excessively fast and can lead to accidents.

Knockback Tome: Increases knockback distance

It increases the knockback distance. Keeping enemies at bay helps protect yourself, so it might find its place in certain situations. For now, it’s probably a rare case.

Duration Tome: Increases duration

Similar to the Bullet Speed Tome, it might be useful in situations where you have 3-4 weapons that affect duration.
